We Are Committed To Women Development In Technology- WTEC

The Women Technology Empowerment Centre has noted that it is committed to development of women in Technology.

The Centre owned by Oreoluwa Lesi, noted this while speaking with TECHMIRROR MAGAZINE.

It was noted that the role of women in technology development of the globe cannot be underrated.

“To get more women into Technology, we need to make sure that a lot of more women are trained and attracted to STEM. By inspiring them to study STEM courses and encouraging them that there are jobs for women in that line especially with the stereotype that certain jobs are not for women. What we try to do is to convince them and by mentoring for instance and holding for workshop for women”

The Communication officer of the Centre Adeyemi Odutola, also noted that support is given to those who are in studying STEM courses in universities.

“Currently, we are running a mentorship program which links women who are studying those courses with successful women who can guide them through their days in school and how they can pursue proper careers in STEM, this is a way of getting more women to be involved. We also run a computer club for girls in a couple of states in Nigeria. This is in a bid for getting more girls to using Technology in the schools and to bring more women to the Tchnology space”

The centre also noted that a camp is run for girls every year called “Shecreates”.

This camp has been running as a two weeks camp for girls and the program has produced females in technology sector.

The women Technology Empowerment Centre noted that there is a movement driving more females to use science and technology further.
